Assistant Civils Quantity Surveyor / Cost Engineer. New requirement. An additional position has arisen as the company, involved in medium sized projects in Civil Engineering Contracts, seeks to capitalise on an increased workload in their area. These are schemes that are carried out for a number of local authorities in the London area by this established company.
Previously they have been heavily involved in the regeneration of the Docklands area in East London, working on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link infrastructure and are now gearing up for work in the Olympic complex. Former clients include London Docklands Development Corporation where they were completing both road and main drainage contracts. There is a current requirement for someone to become involved in the Quantity Surveying / Cost Engineering functions involved in the Civil Engineering Contracts.
Roads & Highways experience and knowledge is preferred for this permanent position. You should ideally be conversant with Road and Highway construction, with first hand knowledge of the processes involved and the sequence of construction that is entailed. Projects included road improvement schemes, new roads, bridges over rivers and railways, village bypass schemes, main drainage schemes, subways and tunnels. This could have been through practical “hands on” work, sandwich placements or graduate work.
The Company was formed over 40 years ago to compete for civil engineering contracts. It is a medium sized company operating regionally in London and the South-East. Town Centre Improvements, traffic calming, pedestrianisation schemes, Red Route construction and bus lane improvements now form a substantial part of their workload. The company employs Chartered Civil Engineers, offering a full design and construction service to clients. A number of projects have been completed on this basis. A project management service is also available as well as the standard construction contract to the client's design and specification.
Qualified or Part Qualified in the Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering fields to Degree or Diploma or HNC level, you will be able to read and interpret drawings, be able to clearly and accurately communicate this information and be fully IT literate. If you are currently seeking to take on more responsibility than your present role allows this job may suit you. Previous experience in an area not related to Quantity Surveying / Civils will not be a disadvantage if you can clearly demonstrate that you are now actively pursuing a QS / Civils career path. Assistance in obtaining RICS Chartership is also available.
Training is also available if the above brief outlines where you wish to be in a few years time. Here is an option to take on an aspiring QS who would be able to go on a day release course that combines the theory in the lecture hall with the practical of site and office work. Assistance would be available with course fees. To qualify you should be able to demonstrate a committed approach to construction learning.
